Zadaniem regulatora solarnego jest zapewnienie właściwej charakterystyki prądu ładowania akumulatorów zabezpieczając je przed zbyt głębokim rozładowaniem lub przeładowaniem. Regulatory solarne gwarantują zwiększenie żywotności baterii w układzie PANEL SOLARNY / Akumulator.
Regulator wyposażony jest w funkcję fotoceli (posiada możliwość załączania wyjścia względem zachodów i wschodów słońca).

Regulator solarny zabezpiecza akumulator przed zbyt głębokim rozładowaniem poprzez odłączenie źródła poboru energii po przekroczeniu dla akumulatora krytycznego napięcia 10,8V. W przypadku pełnego naładowania akumulatora regulator odłącza zasilanie z paneli fotowoltaicznych przy osiągnięciu napięcia akumulatora w zakresie 14V-14.5V.
